Welcome to GACS Drama’s production of The Music Man!
As we gather to share this classic American story, I am reminded of the powerful themes of transformation, community, redemption, and the unexpected ways God can work in our hearts. What began as a simple idea has, through much prayer, planning, and dedication, grown into the lively River City you see before you today. Throughout this journey, God has graciously provided eager students ready to grow, an incredible “DREAM TEAM” of production staff, and the faithful support of generous individuals and local businesses throughout the Spokane area, who continue to help build and strengthen our drama department.
Set in 1912, in the small town of River City, The Music Man tells the story of a charming traveling salesman who arrives with big promises and a questionable plan. Yet what unfolds is far more than a con. It is a story of softened hearts, renewed hope, and a community united through music and second chances. At its core, this musical reminds us that people are capable of change, that leadership carries responsibility, and that sometimes the greatest transformations begin with belief.
In this production, we have worked to honor the spirit and energy of the original musical while breathing fresh life into its humor, heart, and timeless message. We have built a River City full of color, character, and conviction where laughter fills the streets, marching bands inspire the imagination, and even the most stubborn citizens learn to listen to one another.
As the director, one of the greatest joys has been watching our cast and crew embrace the discipline, teamwork, and servant-hearted spirit that theatre requires. This show is big! With nearly 50 performers, quick changes, layered harmonies, choreography, and the joyful chaos that only a town like River City can bring, this production has stretched and strengthened us all. These students have grown not just as performers, but as young men and women learning to lead with integrity, courage, and kindness.
The music, humor, and heart of The Music Man remind us that influence matters. Words matter. And when used for good, they can build something lasting and beautiful. Whether it’s seventy-six trombones leading a parade or one quiet librarian standing firm in her convictions, every voice plays a part in shaping a community.
It is with great joy that I present GACS Drama’s production of The Music Man. May you leave inspired and proud of the growth and accomplishments of your children, reminded that character matters, unity strengthens, and true harmony is built when a community stands together.
