Introduction to Clay Hand Building with Collista Krebs

This is a four week introduction to clay hand building. Students will gain a basic knowledge of ceramics, different clay types, and what to consider when setting up a home studio.

Each of the first three weeks will focus on different hand building techniques: pinch, coil and slab methods. Time will also be dedicated to learning how to add and subtract clay for relief decoration. The forth class will cover glazing with a discussion on the difference between underglazes and glazes.

Each student will be given #25 lbs. of clay and all tools will be provided. Wear old clothing and plan on getting your hands dirty. All work will be fired and returned to the art school for pick-up at a later date.

The class registration fee will show as Ticket Goat on your bank statement. The instructor will have a list of names, so tickets are not necessary.

• Washington State law (ESSB 5814) now requires that certain services be taxed when sold. Art classes fall under this new law and we are required to charge sales tax on all in-person and online classes.
• Refunds or class credit will not be issued for missed classes.
• Refunds will only be issued in the event of a class cancellation by the Spokane Art School.
• Preregistration is required for all classes. Instructors can not take payments.
• Online registration closes 48 hours before the class begins.
• Classes with fewer than three registrations will be cancelled and the registration fee will be refunded.
