Tablet weaving is the art of using cards/tablets instead of a heddle to create intricate, double woven narrow bands. Learn to make decorative trim, bookmarks, belts, and more with this highly durable craft. Tablet weaving dates back to at least the Iron Age, and can be done on warp-weighted looms, inkle looms, or by backstrap (using yourself and a sturdy object to create the tension needed to weave). The tablets, or cards, have four holes, and you rotate the cards forward or backwards to create your designs. Several patterns and resources will be provided for students to learn from during class and to continue to learn afterwards. Students will be instructed on how to backstrap weave for this class, so the only recommended supply to bring is a belt. Shuttles, cards, and yarn provided are available for students to bring home after the workshop.
